The Maintenance & Custodian Worker is responsible for ensuring the effective upkeep of Payukotayno’s facilities, properties, and vehicles. This includes performing routine maintenance, minor repairs, custodial tasks, and ensuring a clean and safe working environment. The role will be split between maintenance responsibilities during the afternoon and custodial duties in the evening. This position is crucial to maintaining a high standard of hygiene, safety, and functionality of all agency premises.
DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintenance Duties (1:00 PM – 5:00 PM):
Conduct daily inspections of the building’s infrastructure, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and security systems.- Perform preventative maintenance to ensure all equipment and facilities remain in optimal condition.
- Repair minor plumbing issues such as leaks, clogged drains, or replacing fixtures.
- Conduct minor electrical repairs, including replacing light bulbs, sockets, and circuit breakers.
- Maintain the safety and security of the premises by ensuring doors, windows, and security systems are functioning properly.
- Assist with snow removal, salting, lawn care, and landscaping maintenance.
- Maintain agency vehicles by ensuring they are clean, fueled, and serviced regularly.
- Coordinate with external vendors for major repairs and maintenance as required.
- Maintain records of all maintenance activities, including inspections, repairs, and supply usage.
- Comply with all health and safety regulations and ensure fire exits, first aid stations, and emergency response plans are in order.
Custodial Duties (6:00 PM – 9:00 PM):
- Perform daily cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting office spaces, common areas, and hallways.
- Sanitize and disinfect restrooms, kitchens, and high-touch surfaces to maintain a hygienic environment.
- Empty trash, recycling, and disposal bins regularly to maintain a clean and clutter-free workplace.
- Replenish supplies such as toilet paper, soap, and sanitizers in all restrooms and kitchen areas.
- Ensure all office spaces and conference rooms are properly organized and presentable.
- Maintain cleaning supplies inventory and notify the supervisor of any restocking needs.
- Identify and report any custodial or maintenance-related issues that need further attention.
- Adhere to workplace safety guidelines, ensuring all chemicals and cleaning agents are used and stored correctly.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma (Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent).
- Certificate/Diploma in a trade (carpentry, plumbing, or electrical preferred) is an asset.
- Previous experience in facility maintenance and custodial work preferred.
- Knowledge of general building systems, repairs, and cleaning procedures.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety and health protocols.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects, work on ladders, and perform manual labor tasks.
- Ability to speak Cree is an asset.
- Valid Class “G” Driver’s License is required.
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check is mandatory.
HOURS OF WORK:
- Maintenance Responsibilities: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
- Custodial Responsibilities: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
